During the three most recent survey cycles, ManorCare's Iowa homes were cited for a total of 73 federal health standards violationsⁱ, including failure to make sure the nursing home was free of dangers that might cause accidents, and failure to prevent or properly treat bedsores.
  
  
• Inadequate staffing: In a 2001 study prepared for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, experts identified a staffing threshold below which quality of care was compromised. Staffing at all four nursing homes in Iowa fails to meet that threshold.
